Larry Collins Career | Larry Collins NBC 5
Larry Collins has assembled news from New Orleans to New York City and is pleased to now call North Texas home. Experiencing childhood in Louisiana, he spent many summer get-aways going with family to the Dallas-Fort Worth region to visit Six Flags Over Texas.
After very nearly 10 years as a journalist and grapple at WCBD-TV in Charleston, SC, he joined the WBFF-TV morning newsgroup in Baltimore. That is the place he became hopelessly enamored with morning news and helping watchers start their day well-educated.
Since 2000, his vocation has discovered him in the newsrooms of KALB-TV as a columnist in the place where he grew up of Alexandria, LA, WGNO-TV as a task supervisor in New Orleans and MTV News in New York City where he interned.
Larry sees himself as a storyteller on a fundamental level and newshound naturally. An Emmy-selected and Edward R. Murrow Award-winning colleague, he searches for the individual at the core of each and every story. He has won a few Associated Press grants including “Story of the Year.”
He has secured the obliteration of Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans, the uproars and resurrection of Baltimore and the passings of nine firemen in a gigantic business fire in Charleston.
Each meeting is essential to Larry, yet he will consistently recollect his accounts with President Bill Clinton, Sen. Ted Kennedy and Tom Brokaw.
By and by, Larry views himself as a “lesser foodie” who is continually searching for the best grill in Texas. Proficient football keeps him occupied on Sundays and you’ll see him giving a shout out to the Cowboys, Saints and Ravens. Try not to approach him for dream football guidance except if you have time – he could discuss it for quite a long time.

Dallas Police, Community Hope Meeting Helps Stop Violence
A violent start to the summer in Dallas has prompted community leaders and police to look for new solutions.
On Thursday, elected leaders, pastors, residents and police will gather in South Dallas for an emergency meeting from 6-8 p.m. at the M. L. King Jr. Rec Center at 2901 Pennsylvania Ave.
Police hope to have a conversation with citizens on how the community and police can address safety concerns in the neighborhood.
“We’re really here to say we need everyone’s help to ensure public safety in our different communities,” Dallas Police Department Community Liaison Joli Robinson said. “What are the answers? Who are those experts? Who are those professionals? Who are those long-time residents that know the things that work in their community? We just want to hear from them.”
Police said community involvement is key in stopping violence and crime. Officers have gone door-to-door inviting the community to the meeting.
“Trust is extremely important. Trust is important all the way around – not only between community and police but community to community,” Robinson said. “How do community members work together if they don’t trust one another if they don’t know one another.”
